WE’RE FEELING INSPIRED AS WE CHAT TO REBECCA ABOUT CREATING A BALANCED LIFESTYLE, PARENTHOOD, MANAGING A SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS AND HER EFFORTLESS SENSE OF STYLE.
What path has led you to where you are now?
Gosh, so many. I think back on my life so far and I see so many sliding doors moments. I am a person who is quite willing to throw myself into most situations and see where they take me. I have done quite a few extreme things and even though they were tough to navigate they have taught me such important life lessons and taken me to where I am today.
We love your sustainable kids brand, what inspired you to create Mini Marley?
Thank you! I originally created the brand out of necessity. At the time when I first created Mini Marley there was a huge gap in the market for sustainable, minimalist, basic kids clothing that had fashion inspiration from a wardrobe that was parallel to my own style. These days it seems quite different as I feel it is a very saturated market but my love for design and my two daughters as my mini muses keep me going.
What’s your key to creating a work/life balance with 2 kids?
Being able to surrender. If you write your daily tasks down on paper it is overwhelming, exhausting and seemingly impossible. I think you need to find a flow that works for you and you need to be able to surrender to the chaos. My house is not always clean, my hair isn't always done perfectly, my kids do not ever have matching socks on, but we are all happy and we are all filling our cups with things that we love. I have learnt to become much better at not only accepting help but asking for it when I need it. There is no perfect balance and different aspects of my life will need more attention at different times, but as long as I am honest with myself and my family and we communicate about is happening they know that the first place I would ever choose to be is with them but work is hard and if I am passionate about making my business the best it can be I need to dedicate myself to that too.
What’s your essentials for travelling?
Travelling with kids is a whole new ball game. Preparation is key. Firstly - wet wipes. Can never have enough wet wipes for so many different needs. I think a good bag to carry your travel essentials is a must. I have one that converts to a backpack which helps save my back from getting sore and also gives me more hands free for all the jobs I need to do. I pack a lot of snacks when we travel as this entertains the kids and stops them from complaining about being hungry every two seconds. We also like to bring a lot of travel friendly activities like cards, colouring in (the invisible ink books for little ones are great) and I also like to pack kids sized headphones as the ones the plane supplies tend to fall off and distract the kids from watching a movie which is good peace and quiet not only for yourself but everyone around you.
3 things you can’t live without ?
My family, music, sunshine.
What creative projects are you working on for 2023?
As my youngest daughter is getting older I am starting to get a bit more freedom so I will hopefully be enrolling in some courses to upskill and learn some new elements into design. I am also interiors obsessed at the moment so I will be finishing one of my new house projects and always new things coming up for Mini Marley. Next year we hope to be doing some more maternity pieces.
