This month we were so honoured to speak with Kayla Boyd, entrepreneur, mother and wife to former NRL veteran Darius Boyd. Kayla's not only juggling her career and family life, but utilising her platform to empower women Australia wide with her series of events 'Find Your Fierce'. Through these events Kayla has inspired thousands of women making an ever-lasting imprint with her influence.
In this Q&A we dive deep with Kayla and discuss a range of topics from what IWD means to her, what inspired her to start 'Find Your Fierce' and how to balance career and family.
International Women's Day is such an important day to raise awareness towards female businesses in our community. What does this day mean to you?
Find Your Fierce was inspired organically through my motherhood journey after my first-born Willow. I found myself in what was my darkest period, 12 months postnatally. Navigating life as a first time mother is a crucial time. I felt a pull and desire to create a community not only for myself but for other women who may have been feeling stretched in the same way. I wanted to create genuine connections and a core foundation for women to come together collectively, to be able to openly discuss the many important issues we face in life. An open forum, no topic is off limits, a safe space where we can be free to dig deep into having those raw, real, and honest conversations without judgement.
What is the most rewarding part about running a business designed to empower women?
There are so many rewarding elements in doing what I do, I am so grateful to be able to do something that I love and passionate about. Making beautiful connections, and forging kind friendships are absolutely priceless. Knowing that I have made a positive difference to somebody else’s life in the simplest form is what genuinely does it for me. It’s the best feeling in the world, to know you have truly helped another soul.
You are a Mama to Willow, Romi and your third baby is just around the corner! What is your advice to other mums juggling the work/family balance?
-
To love themselves unconditionally and wholeheartedly, no matter what. To be their own best friend as well as each others. To love without judgement, to be kind without expectation and to always be grateful because gratitude will get you through anything.
What is next for Kayla?
Creativity and purpose will always be my calling. There are so many things that I want to do, it’s a challenge to define and grit it out into what is next exactly, however that really excites me! My next Find Your Fierce event for 2021 will be the first on the agenda once I have found my form as a mother of three. My husband and I have been working on a business project very close to our hearts for over the past year, which we are very passionate about bringing to fruition later this year. The past 7 weeks I’ve been reflecting and refining what’s most important in life, when something affects you deeply it’s a time where perspective is at the forefront of everything. Sadly, one of my best friends lost her battle with depression, now more than ever I want to delve deeper into my work within the women empowerment and mental health space.
